The Baudelaire Fire, inspired by Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, finds us entering the Museum of Unfortunate Events (MOUE) guided by Lizzie, Paul and Jack. A strange limb-land, The MUOE is the place where all unfortunate events (UE) are evaluated. If your UE is mundane and everyday it is simply sent back into reality as the museum is inundated with these. However, if your UE is exceptional it is chosen to stay.
Lizzie, Paul and Jack are all at the MOUE as their UE were so exceptional they themselves had earned a place. In the museum we see 3 lives exhibits, each outlining how Lizzie, Paul and Jack came to be stuck in the MOUE for ever. This adventurous foray into micro theatre saw TVYT turning the Parish Hall in Riding Mill into four extraordinary spaces: the main gallery; a library tea room; an attic; and a blanket fort. |
All of these spaces were able to fit 4 performers and a maximum audience of 18. The audience was split into groups and ushered through to each live exhibit and when they came back through the main gallery, they began to see how the story fitted together.
The story comes to a close when Margery, Paul's companion from the library tea room, suddenly appears after having dropped a cup of tea. Lizzie is adamant that Margery can't stay, 'dropping a tea cup is simply not good enough to earn your place in the Museum of Unfortunate Events'. Paul, Jack and Margery eventually convince Lizzie to let Jack leave instead of Margery and he sets off wth the promise to set his reality back on the right path.

A Little Something New For TVYT
With The Baudelaire Fire, we introduced TVYT's first ever PIAW Production places. We gave some of our older members the opportunity to learn new skills and be involved in the PIAW experience in a production role. They were excellent all week and their work was really something to be proud of.
